DiGiGrid friend and ambassador Claudio Jans recently upgraded his studio to meet the growing demand for Dolby Atmos content and built the first DiGiGrid-driven Dolby Atmos studio in Germany.
With nearly 30 years of experience, Claudio has always looked for the best solutions and the next “big thing” in audio. A long time believer in DiGiGrid’s sound quality and the flexibility of the SoundGrid Network, turning to DiGiGrid again for his Atmos mixing setup was an obvious choice.
While the concept of immersive audio is not new, with Disney experimenting with it as far back as the early 1940’s, it’s use and application has exploded in recent years. With music, TV and film all offering immersive audio delivery, Claudio’s studio upgrades will allow him to apply his experience and knowledge to this growing market.
His DiGiGrid system, which consists of multiple interfaces including IOS-XL’s, IOC’s and IOX’s already offered the necessary outputs for his 7.1.4 Dolby output. Claudio explains “I use the Dolby Render plugin inside my DAW, and feed the 12 channels that make up the 7.1.4 mix into mono channels in SoundGrid Studio. Each channel in SoundGrid Studio uses the Tract plugin to equalize the channels and to compensate runtime differences according to the Dolby specifications. Each channel output is then sent directly into individual speakers via outputs on the IOX’s. “
Being able to control the volume of all channels at once with a DCA in SoundGrid Studio allows Claudio to combine his DiGiGrid IOX’s together, and with the power of SoundGrid, build his perfect Dolby Atmos system.
